Goals Need Not Be Big To Be Effective And Motivating
Lacking confidence that you can achieve what you want in life?
Set A Goal. Then Take Baby Steps to Success.
Change does not have to be huge, it can be as simple as just starting firmly in the direction you set and consistently take small doable actions.
Oh, there’s the problem. What direction? Every day we all take baby steps going somewhere.
The problem seems to be that some of those steps are wasted. Some of us do not have a desired direction in mind. We are not focused on a goal.
One day goes by and we take a baby step in one direction, then the next day, we take a baby step in another direction. There is no momentum being built, just fractured actions, with no measurable results toward the desired goal.
And, that’s called going nowhere fast. That’s exactly how you got where you are today though, one baby step at a time.
But, is where you are right now, where you wanted to be? There’s an old saying, “Those who fail to plan, plan to fail” and it is so true.
The only place you will arrive is “nowhere-fast” without a plan, a well-thought-out, written-down-in-black-and-white plan, a road map to success.
You certainly need to know where you want to go before you can get there.
So the first step is to decide exactly what your goal is, no maybes, ifs, ands, or buts. Write it down in one short sentence.
You might start out by writing down:
“I want a successful online business earning $100,000 a year”, “I want to save 20% of my income so I can retire comfortably when I am sixty”, “I also want to set aside $50,000 in the next fifteen years so I can send my kids to college.”
These are just examples. You get the idea don’t you?
The next step is to map out the strategy so that you can achieve that goal. You plan and decide which baby steps it will take to get there, what you can do each day to make it all happen.
Your list might start with, “Make an appointment with a financial planner” or “Get information about starting an online business”. And, you do not have to have the whole plan filled out before you start.
Your list should start with where you are now and take you through to reaching your goal. You do not have to be perfect, just get started and adjust as necessary as you go.
You will need motivation to make a plan and stick to it for the long haul, so get emotional about what you want and keep it in front of you always.
Now that you have your goals written out, and your plan started, consistently take small actions and measure your results.
Go ahead, take that first step, the baby step that takes you directly to the next thing on your list. And, then the next thing until you get what you want…
That’s how you achieve your goals.
