Goals Work, Are You Starting Your Goal Setting With The End In Mind

What’s the End For You? By Frances Lucas

We have all heard the best way to plan is to begin with the end in mind. For some, the end is hard to see. For those who enjoy doing the work that is in front of them it may be hard.

These people like getting things done, marking the task off their list and moving on to the next item. Some may see the big picture but many are just getting task after task done. There is certainly nothing wrong with that.

However, we do need to be able to see the big picture. We may be working on things and staying busy but is it getting us to where we really want to be?

Seeing the big picture or knowing your end goal will help you to determine what to do. Think about something you would like to accomplish.

What would it look like if it was completed? How would you feel? What would be enjoying if it was done? What could you put away and forget about because it was finished?

Write all of these things down. For example, let’s say you want to clean out the garage. Picture in your mind what the garage would look like clean and organized.

Think about the feeling of accomplishment when it is finished. What else can you do when the garage is cleaned out? Think about the joy of walking through the garage without tripping over things.

Do this with all your goals. Make a list of what you want to accomplish with your health, your relationships, your finances, your career and your spiritual life.

Pick two or three top goals in each area. Now make a list of things to do now that will help you reach your goal.

Decide to do one thing in each area every week. Picture what it will look like in a few months. What about at the end of the year?

Small weekly steps that may take 15 to 30 minutes will multiply over time. Keep track of it in your journal or on a calendar and you will be surprised at your results in the end.

Continue this through the years and you will see major differences in your life. You can do this now and look back with pride in what you did or you can wait and in a year or so you will wish you would have taken action. Do it now so you won’t be disappointed later.
